Maybe God has other plans....

I finally got up with the alarm clock this morning, only to be greeted with pouring down rain, thunder, and lightening. I just can't win for losing right now. I got training with the PD this afternoon and it runs until 10pm. So, I guess running is out again today. Tomorrow is a rest day, but I may try and get in 3 to 4 miles. Guess we will see what is in store for me in the morning.....

Well...It happened again

I slept through the alarm clock. I got up at 6:45am this morning and had no time to run. My back up plan was to run while the kids were in VBS. I got changed at church and went out to strech to run at 7:45pm. Then came the rain and lightening. I decided to skip today's running and went back in. Maybe I can get up in the morning for the 4 miles on the schedule for tomorrow....'til next time.....

1st day of new training...or make that night!

I was all set last night to start the new 16 week "Rookie" marathon training program I got off Runner's World.com. I set the alarm clock for 5:30am and was in bed by 10Pm. I didn't sleep all that well, but evidently at 5:30 this morning, I was sleeping hard. When the alarm went off, I rolled over and turned it off and went back to sleep. Jennifer woke me up at 6:15 to ask me if I was running or not. So my 1st training day started out crappy. I decided to run after we got back from VBS at church. So alittle after 9pm I was lacing up my running shoes and streching out getting ready for my 1st 4 miles of this week. Since it was dark, I planned on running inside my neighborhood just to stay in the safety of the street lights along our streets. Well, at 9 o'clock it was still 81 degrees and humid, so I didn't get much of a break. I still churned out 4 miles in alittle over 36 mins, so I was good with that. Now the blister on my left foot is growing though. I caked on the Body Glide, but it got bigger. I will have to keep an eye on it. My left knee was alittle sore and tender again after running. I sat in a cold bath afterwards for about 10 mins hoping that would help. I drank my usual post run Gatoraid and Endurance Fuel. Now it is off to bed to see if I can get up at 5:30 for 3 miles in the morning......

Well, I chickened out.....kinda

I woke up sometime early Saturday morning to the sound of rain, thunder, and lightening. Then the alarm clock when off at 0700hrs and I turned it off. I thought it was raining and storming, so I just went back to bed and didn't get up to run. I found out later from my wife, that it was not raining at 0700hrs. The sun was out and it was pretty. Oh well, atleast I slept well.

I did run on Sunday though. I dropped the kids off at church for VBS and decided to run the roads around my church. I drove home real quick and got my running gear and headed back. I left my church and ran down College St and through Lyon Crest Sub-division. I then when down Hwy 52 and crossed over to Hwy 31. I then came back down Hwy 52 to College St and ended up back at church. It was a 6.75 mile loop. I ended up walking for about 30 secs at 3.4 miles to try and get my left foot to quick hurting. Come to find out, I rubbed a HUGE blister on it while running. My left knee hurt the rest of the night too. It was hurting on the outside of my knee cap. It feels better this morning though.

The new training program for a marathon that I am going to try and start this week has me cross training today for 30 mins. I am going to rest today to make sure the knee is ok and let my blister rest. I am supposed to run 2-3 easy miles tomorrow. We will see how that goes...

The night before a long run...

Does anyone else set up the night before a long run and debate on how far to go? I have been running 6 to 7 miles, but I want to step up to 8 or 10. I am not sure if I should try for 10 tomorrow or just be happy with 8. I plan on running the half marathon in Oct, so I still have time to build up to it. I think I will just go for 8 and leave the 10 mile run for later. Well, off to bed to get some sleep before tomorrow morning's run. I will post tomorrow on how I did.

My 1st blog entry

I have been checking out blogs over the past few months and thought it looked like something fun to try, so here it goes. I am happily married to my wife Jennifer for 12 1/2 years now. We have 2 kids. Noah is turning 9 in September and Gracie is 5. I work as a Captain at Sumner EMS. I have been there since 1995 and don't plan on going anywhere else. My family and I live a typical small town life. I enjoy time off, hanging out with family, playing my PS3, and driving my mustang. I ALSO LOVE THE KENTUCKY WILDCATS!!!

I was asked to attend an FBI SWAT school back at the beginning of April. We had to run 2 miles a day every day. I have been wanting to get in shape for sometime now, so after completing this class, I continued to run. I was running 2 miles at a time every 2 or 3 days when I first started. It was hard, but I stuck to it. I began to watch what I ate also. At the end of April, I had lost 13 pounds and 2 miles didn't seem that hard anymore. When my nephew graduated this year, he asked me if I wanted to run the Strawberry Stride with him this year. It was the next morning. I said what the heck and told him I would meet him there. Let me tell ya, 3 miles is different from 2 miles. I ran the 1st 2 miles without a problem, but I bet I walked 4 or 5 times during that last 1.1 miles. I finished though, and I loved it. I finished my 1st 5K in 28:50. I know, it is not a great time, but I was happy I finished. I got the running bug after that. I continued to run 3 miles at a time 2 to 3 times a week. I have finished 4 different 5Ks now with my personal record being 25:23 at the White House Parks Independence Day 5K this past July 4th. I plan on running atleast 1 race a month for the rest of the year. I am planning on running the 1/2 marathon in October in Nashville.

I hope to use this blog to log my training and find other runners that want to share stories and tips.

Please feel free to leave comments and tips....
